Security of Bhutanese refugees demanded

Bhutanese political parties and human rights organizations have demanded security to the Bhutanese refugees, living in UNCHR administered camps of eastern Nepal, with Nepal Government and the UNHCR.

Issuing separate statements chairperson of National Democratic Front Bhutan Bala Ram Poudel, General Secretary of People’s Forum for Human Rights DP Kafle and Media Network Bhutan have stated that there have been rise in the criminal incidents in the refugee camps and appealed for the security of Bhutanese refugees.

They were expressing concern over the security situation of the camp after former secretary of the Beldangi refugee camp KB Khadka was murdered by a group of unidentified people on September 8. Stating that there was situation of insecurity in the camp they urged the Nepal government and the UNHCR to provide special security in the camps. They also expressed concern over growing criminal activities in refugee camps.
