California based Bhutanese social organization BASCO is going to host ‘Deusi Bhailo Saanjh’ this Sunday, the first day of Tihar, according to BASCO secretary Paul Rai. The 3 hours long cultural program is scheduled to be held at the United Methodist Church in Alameda on 18th of Oct. 2009 beginning from 3PM(PST).
“The program is rather a kind of musical event, all the items we present at the show will reflect our identity and culture”, says one of the BASCO founding members. Young Bhutanese artists from Oakland, Alameda and Sacramento are expected to perform their live songs and dances and entertain the audience. Besides, the program will also see some elderly Bhutanese folks singing our traditional Deusi and Bhailo songs at the stage, according to Mr. Mohan Tamang, coordinator of the organizing committee.
Bhutanese Community support Organization in America(BASCO) was formed in the beginning of the year 2009. A similar type of cultural program was organized on April 24 to announce their official formation. Though it was the first cultural program in the Bhutanese community in the SF bay area, it was, yet, not that successful in entertaining the mass to the fullest owing to some technical hiccups. However, having learnt from the previous short comings and with more and more musicians/singers and technicians involved, the organization is believed to make this event a historically successful ones.
