Bhutan bagged first prize at the annual international food fair held at University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP),United States on October 21. Exhibited as the ‘Cuisine from the Last Sangrila’, the Bhutanese delicacies, prepared by the students for competition at the university was declared the best among scores of cuisines from around the world.
Emadaatsi, the national dish, kewadatsi, fried rice, gongdo shamdey, beef and chicken items were some of the dainty food stuffs from this Himalayan nation displayed outwardly at the contest. Other programs of the fair included dances, and songs by various students from different parts of the world who are pursuing their further studies at UTEP.
The Association of the Bhutanese Students in UTEP has planned to contribute the fund collected from the fair to the earthquake relief fund.
Earlier on September Bhutanese students at this university had exhibited Bhutanese art and architecture.
Located at the heart of the Chihuahuan desert on the US-Mexico border, the University has been a home to various Bhutanese artifacts. It also sponsors ‘Bhutan day’ biannually welcoming newer students from this youngest democratic nation on earth.
