The Principal US Deputy Assistant to the secretary of state in charge of the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration(PRM), Samuel M. Witten, is in Nepal for a two day visit, according to the The Himalayan Times. Witten, who assumed the office of the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for PRM in July 2007, reached Kathmandu on Wednesday. During his stay in Nepal, he met officials from the Ministry of Home and Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as officials from the national and international levels dealing with refugee issues.
During the meetings, Witten discussed the latest scenario of the Tibetan and Bhutanese refugees residing in Nepal.
Witten had also visited the Phetchabun refugee camp in Thailand on July to know the situation of the Hmong and Burmese refugees there.
