Dec.04 Bhutan was badly defeated by the hosts Bangladesh 1-4 in the opening day match of the 6th SAFF Championship at the country’s premier sports venue Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, today.
Popular Bangladeshi striker cum defender Prantosh’s heading inside opponent’s penalty area confused the Bhutanese defenders and eventually ended up in the goal early in the 10th minute.Adding pressure to the meek opponent,another Bangladeshi player, Enamul, blasted the ball into the net in the 22nd minute but taking advantage of the penalty shoot that bhutan was awarded just three minutes before the break, Nawang Dhendup turned his kick fruitful making the score 1-2.
Bangladesh dominated the game right from the beginning. In the 72nd minute, Jahid Hassan beat the Bhutanese keeper in a counter attack and sent the ball to the goal sealing a 4-1 victory against Bhutan and making a strong foundation to their dream of lifting the little this time.
With this defeat,now Bhutan stands at the bottom of the group ‘B’ and needs to exhibit a better performance against Srilanka on Sunday, the 6th Dec.
