Dec.04. Bhutan is playing one of the two Inaugural matches of the 6th edition of the SAFF Championship against the host Bangladesh today at Bangabandhu National Staduim, Dhaka at 11:30AM(Bhutan Standard Time). It is, indeed a big challenge for this tiny Himalayan nation that stands at 196 in the FIFA ranking, to demolish erstwhile winner Bangladesh as they are keen to take the home ground advantage. Yet, the Bhutanese players are equally hopeful to beat the opponent, according to the sources.
Coached by Japanese Koji Gyatoku, the Bhutanese team consists of players most of which had appeared in the fifth SAFF Championship. Defender, Pema Rinchin, mid-fielder,Pashang Tshering, wingers,Yeshey Dorji and Nima Shangay and above all, ace goalscorer,Gyeltshen, are the eminent and eye-catching figures of the Bhutanese squad.
As being in the same group, Bhutan will have to knock down three of its opponents,viz. Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri-lanka, before encountering with a giant winner of the other group, the group of Death,in the Final Match.
Bhutan made debut in this biennial regional football extravaganza only in its 3rd edition in 2003 and has made a commendable progress with in a short period of time lifting them to fight with the regional giant, India in the Semi-final round of the fifth SAFF Championship in 2008.
